Psychology Faculty Advisors

Need help thinking about your future in Psychology, but you are not sure where to begin?  Each undergraduate student in Psychology has an assigned advisor based on their last name, but students may seek advising from anyone in Psychology with whom they feel connected. These alphabetical assignments may change from year-to-year, but you are welcome to continue meeting with the same individual throughout your UCCS career. The goal of this is to help you figure out what you might do within Psychology for your future career plans as well as planning within the Psychology major. Your Psychology faculty advisor is specific to your major and does not duplicate the degree-planning functions of Academic Advising.

Advising Guides

Basic Needs Support

Basic Needs can be defined as the essentials an individual needs to live a safe and healthy life. Basic Needs insecurity occurs when we don't have access to those essentials. When students aren't able to meet their basic needs, they aren't receiving equal access to a UCCS education.
The purpose of UCCS Basic Needs Support is to foster community wellbeing and safety by supporting under-resourced students and providing resources referrals and education on basic needs security to the UCCS Community.
Our focus areas are housing, food, transportation, and healthcare. While these are our current focus areas, we understand that basic needs encompass so much more and can assist with other insecurities as well.
You can schedule a meeting for yourself with the Basic Needs Coordinator or make a referral for someone else. Please visit our Contact or Referrals page for more information.

Diversity Initiatives

The Psychology Department seeks to foster inclusion and belonging of all members of its community, and to promote equity among members of society in its core mission of teaching and research. We commit to educating and equipping our faculty, staff, and students to live in ways that support equity and inclusion of diverse populations in our work and in society at large.

Senior Accountability Exam

All undergraduate UCCS Psychology Majors must take the Senior Accountability Exam during the semester they intend to graduate.

The Psychology Senior Accountability Exam will be administered via Canvas. During the final semester before graduation, students will find the (non-credit) course "PSY Exit Exam and Survey" within their Canvas shell. The Senior Accountability Exam must be completed by two weeks before the last day of classes for that semester.  After you have completed the exam, the Psychology Department informs Academic Advising to update your Degree Audit Report to reflect this requirement has been completed.

There is not recommended way to study for this exam. The purpose of this exam is to provide us with an idea of what you have learned throughout your time in the Psychology program. We utilize these results to see where our students are compared to national averages and to identify the areas we may need to improve our program.

The requirement is that you MUST take the exam in order to graduate. However, you do not have to get a certain score on the exam in order to graduate. We want you to do your best and show us what you’ve learned.

For questions or concerns, contact: Laura Chandler at lchandl2@uccs.edu or your Academic Advisor.

Participants will use the Sona System to participate in studies.
